Capturing the Heart of the Region – how regional media define a community
Abstract
This paper examines the role regional media play in constructiing a region’s publics. It examines how journalists at one regional newspaper conceptualise the public and investigates how these concepts are played out through a series of articles from the same newspaper.

Jacqui Ewart
Jacqui Ewart is a lecturer in journalism and professional communication in the School of Contemporary Communication at Central Queensland University. She worked as a journalist and media manager for ten years before joining CQU in mid 1996. Her research interests include readership, public journalism, technology and journalism and journalistic practices.
